Lynn C. Schumacher received his doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1986 in chemical physics. His research covered several disciplines including solid state physics and chemistry and physical electrochemistry and involved the development of novel photovoltaic materials based on metal oxides and mixed metal oxides and their characterization using a host of techniques including XPS, Auger spectroscopy, X-ray analysis, and electrochemical characterization including impedance analysis and photoelectrochemical techniques.
He was awarded an Industrial Research Fellowship for three years at which time he carried out a research program at the Ontario Hydro Research Division developing new materials for photovoltaic applications and electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reactions such as in fuel cells. He authored over ten (10) peer reviewed, published scientific publications in these fields prior to becoming a registered patent agent.
He became a registered Canadian and US patent agent in 1992. He started the patent and trademark firm Hill & Schumacher in 1994. He has written and prosecuted to patent hundreds of originating patent applications worldwide in all areas of technology including chemical, biochemical, pharmaceutical, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software related applications.
